Mission

Signalstorflicknestl explains optical signalling, the art of sending messages by sight, as a set of readable panels. The aim is speed: a reader should get the key facts in seconds and the detail in minutes.

Method

Every date, distance and count is checked against at least two independent sources. We prioritise primary standards, such as the IMO International Code of Signals and IALA's definitions of light characteristics, followed by museum collections and published histories. Where sources disagree, we print a range or the more conservative figure and note it.

Independence

The site carries no advertising and no sponsored content. It is not affiliated with any navy, museum, lighthouse authority or equipment maker. Mentions of organisations are for reference only.

Corrections
